Ondo LG empowers 300 elders with N30m
The Okitipupa Local Government Area (LGA) in Ondo State has empowered no fewer than 300 elderly residents with N100,000 cash each, totaling N30 million, as part of its social intervention programme.
Mr Andrew Ogunsakin, Chairman, Okitipupa LGA, at the empowerment on Friday in Okitipupa, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people by continuing the council’s social intervention programme.
Ogunsakin said the programme was a continuation of the intervention first launched in December 2025.
According to him, 300 beneficiaries drawn from the 13 wards of Okitipupa LGA received cash grants of ₦100,000 each.
“The initiative was designed to provide financial relief and improve the wellbeing of the elderly, widows and widowers which reflects my dedication to inclusive governance and compassionate leadership.
“The welfare of the elderly remains a moral responsibility, I pledge that the council will sustain people-oriented initiatives aimed at improving living standards across the council area” Ogunsakin said.
He urged beneficiaries to remain hopeful, assuring them that his administration would continue to prioritize programmes which directly impacted the lives of the people, particularly the most vulnerable members of society.
Ogunsakin, however, expressed appreciation to Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his unflinching support for grassroots governance and for creating an enabling environment for LGA governments to deliver meaningful development and social welfare programmes to the people.

A beneficiary, Mr Faniyi Orowole, 70-year-old, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), expressed gratitude for the grant, which he said, came at the right time to meet his immediate needs.
Another 65-,year-old beneficiary, Mrs Cecelia Akindiyo, thanked Ogunsakin for the laudable programme.
According to her, it has impacted the elderly and God would continue to bless the chairman.
Also, Mr Kayode Enikuemehin, 75, a beneficiary, commended the administration of Ogunsakin for his genuine concern for the welfare of elderly people, and prayed for the success of his efforts to transform the council area.
