Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has selected Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, replacing the incumbent Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida.
The change was announced by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi on Sunday, August 16, 2026, with the party saying the decision was based on professional legal advice concerning the deputy governor’s eligibility.
APC National Organising Secretary Suleiman Muhammad said the decision was reached with the understanding and consent of Tafida and that there was no disagreement between the governor and his deputy.
Governor Idris also said he had no problem with Tafida and assured supporters that he would work with the new running mate.
Augie, who hails from Augie Local Government Area, previously served as Kebbi State Commissioner for Finance during the administration of former Governor Atiku Bagudu.
The new pairing will represent the APC in the 2027 Kebbi governorship election.
