The Federal Government, through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), is providing housing finance options to help eligible Nigerians build, buy, improve or renovate their homes.

Under the National Housing Fund (NHF) Mortgage Loan, contributors can access up to ₦50 million, with the facility available through accredited and licensed Primary Mortgage Banks (PMBs). FMBN currently states that the loan attracts 6% interest for NHF contributors and can run for up to 30 years.

Who can apply?

Applicants generally need to be NHF contributors and must have made at least six months of continuous contributions. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate the ability to repay the loan through stable employment or evidence of regular income for self-employed applicants.

How to apply

Interested Nigerians can:

1. Register for the National Housing Fund (NHF) and verify their contribution record.

2. Choose the appropriate FMBN housing product, depending on whether they want to buy, build or renovate a home.

3. Approach an accredited Primary Mortgage Bank (PMB) to submit the mortgage application.

4. Provide the required documents, including proof of income and relevant property/building documents.

5. Undergo the required property and legal assessment.

6. If approved, the mortgage is processed and disbursed according to the agreed terms.

FMBN also provides an online platform where contributors can register, verify their NHF information and begin the process.

The bank has advised prospective applicants to verify requirements directly with FMBN or an accredited mortgage institution and avoid individuals who demand money in exchange for guaranteed loan approval.
