The Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has launched a traditional spiritual campaign against kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists, and other criminal elements terrorising Edo State.

Leading a solemn early morning procession alongside priests, priestesses, and traditional worshippers, the revered monarch performed ancient rites aimed at invoking the ancestors and spiritual forces to expose, curse, and punish those responsible for violent crimes across the Benin Kingdom.

Oba Ewuare II said the traditional exercise is intended to complement ongoing efforts by security agencies, stressing that traditional institutions also have a responsibility to protect lives, preserve peace, and defend communities against criminality.

The monarch expressed concern over the growing wave of insecurity in Edo State, particularly incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery, and called on residents to support both lawful security operations and community efforts to restore safety.

The ritual has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians debating the role of traditional institutions and spiritual practices in addressing the country’s worsening security challenges.
