The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted consignments of Captagon, popularly known as the “Jihadi drug”, and millions of opioid pills worth more than ₦6.2 billion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The Captagon shipment was seized on August 22 following the arrest of a 49-year-old suspected cross-border drug kingpin, Akinbile Kazeem Aikins, who arrived in Lagos from Accra, Ghana, aboard an Africa World Airlines flight.
NDLEA said the drugs were concealed in containers of Ghanaian-made soap. The agency also intercepted 3.9 million opioid pills in separate operations at the airport, with the combined street value of the seized substances exceeding ₦6.2 billion.
The agency said the suspect allegedly told investigators that he was expected to deliver the Captagon consignment to northern Nigeria. NDLEA also reported other drug seizures and arrests in separate operations across the country.
