Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has received the 2026 Global Transformation and Good Governance Prize at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C.
Sanwo-Olu said he accepted the award on behalf of more than 25 million Lagos residents and used the occasion to promote Lagos as a major investment destination in Africa.
The governor highlighted the state’s economic growth, infrastructure projects and efforts to reduce dependence on crude oil revenues. He said Lagos generates more than a quarter of Nigeria’s economic output and has an economy estimated at about $259 billion.
Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Lekki Refinery, Lagos Blue and Red rail lines, and the Omi Eko electric ferry project as examples of infrastructure supporting the state’s development.
He thanked the Asante Crown and the Millennium Excellence Foundation for the recognition and urged investors seeking opportunities in Africa to consider cities where governance, infrastructure and execution are creating economic opportunities.
