The announcement was made today by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during NECO’s 25th Anniversary (Silver Jubilee) celebration held in Abuja.
According to the minister, the new computer-based examination system is aimed at:
• Reducing examination malpractice
• Improving examination security
• Enabling real-time monitoring of candidates
• Detecting suspicious activities during examinations
• Modernizing Nigeria’s examination system
The minister described the reform as a major step forward for NECO and Nigeria’s educational system.
At the event, NECO also revealed that the council now conducts examinations in 8 countries and has expanded its digital operations, including electronic result verification and technology-driven examination processes.
Although the minister confirmed that the Computer-Based Examination (CBE) will commence this year, no official statement was made today on whether candidates will have an option between Paper-Pencil Test (PPT) and CBT.
Further directives and implementation details are expected to be released officially by NECO in due time.
Students, parents, schools, and stakeholders are therefore advised to stay updated and begin preparing for a more technology-driven examination system.
