Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has flagged off the construction and rehabilitation of major roads connecting four local government areas in the state to improve transportation, strengthen security and boost economic activities.

The projects, launched on Tuesday, November 3, include the Tashar Abu–Kekun Waje–Bingi Road, Kwatarkwashi–Mada Road and the 53-kilometre Gusau–Jauri–Dogon Kade–Nasarawa Mailayi–Nasarawa Godel Road. They will connect communities across Gusau, Bungudu, Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji local government areas.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Tashar Abu–Kekun Waje–Bingi Road project will involve reconstruction, earthworks, pavement construction, drainage and erosion control, with an 18-month completion timeline. The Kwatarkwashi–Mada Road has been awarded to Zhongcheng Construction Nigeria Limited and is expected to be completed within 12 months.

The 53-kilometre Gusau–Nasarawa Godel Road project has been awarded to CCECC Nigeria Limited, with an 18-month completion period. It will cover five kilometres in Gusau, 12 kilometres in Bungudu, nine kilometres in Kaura Namoda and 27 kilometres in Birnin Magaji, including three bridges, culverts and drainage infrastructure.

Governor Lawal said the projects would reduce transportation costs and journey times, improve access to markets and essential services, and make it easier for farmers to transport their produce. He also described improved road connectivity as important for security operations and economic development across the state.
