Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted attempts by terrorists to launch attacks in parts of the North-West, neutralising nine insurgents, including two key kingpins, in coordinated operations across Katsina State and Zamfara State.
The operations, carried out between May 1 and May 3, 2026, also led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, motorcycles, ammunition, and other items used by the террористs.
In Katsina State, troops from the Forward Operating Base Fudma engaged terrorists along the Turare–Yantumaki Road in Dutsinma Local Government Area, neutralising four fighters and recovering weapons, motorcycles, mobile phones, and cash.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops at Forward Operating Base Bagega conducted a high-risk mission in Anka Local Government Area, eliminating several terrorists, including two notorious kingpins identified as Anaruwa and Gomina.
The terrorists initially retreated during a gun battle but later regrouped and launched a counterattack on the military base. Reinforced troops, supported by air strikes, repelled the assault and inflicted further casualties on the attackers.
Follow-up operations led to the neutralisation of additional terrorists, while several weapons and motorcycles were recovered during exploitation of the area.
The military confirmed that one soldier lost his life during the operation, describing it as a sacrifice in the line of duty.
Troops have since maintained dominance in the area to prevent further attacks, while authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist elements and protecting communities.
