According to a report by The Vanguard on Monday, July 20, 2026, according to Pastor Remmy Hazzan, who is also an assistant pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and a former deputy speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is within its rights to field a presidential ticket consisting of two Muslims in the run-up to the 2027 election.
The former legislator from Ogun State addressed the general public’s worries about the effect of the ticket on religious tolerance during an interview with Frontline on Eagle 102.5 FM. He made the following statements:
We do not have any anti-religious views. We will not support causes that undermine the validity of any religion or give preference to any one faith group.
Hazzan pointed to the fact that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is amenable to Christians by mentioning his marriage to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is an ordained RCCG pastor:
“If such a man has lived peacefully with his Christian wife for decades, that shows his level of religious tolerance, and we believe that disposition will continue to reflect in his leadership of Nigeria.”
Rather than focusing on religious exclusion, he emphasised the need for pragmatic political strategy when dealing with a Muslim candidate from the South.
The priest said that religious affiliation should not be a determining factor in leadership but rather skill, integrity, and character should.
In his assessment of the Obama administration’s performance over the past three years, Hazzan noted that the economy has been temporarily hit hard by government reforms, but he pleaded with the public to give the president some time to finish his plans to revive the economy.
In order to bring about good change from inside government, he urged Christians to get politically involved.
