Niger Delta activist and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, has reflected on the personal challenges he says he has faced over the past decade, revealing that security concerns have significantly limited his movement and affected his daily life.
Dokubo made the remarks in a video shared on Facebook on Sunday, July 19, 2026, while discussing his experiences, personal security, and the impact the situation has had on his lifestyle since 2014.
During the discussion, he explained that he has spent much of the last 11 years at home, describing the restrictions he says he has endured over that period. According to him, concerns about his safety have made it difficult for him to move around freely or spend time in places he once visited without hesitation.
Speaking about his situation, Dokubo said, “From 2014 to date, I have been at home for 11 years; even sleeping in Port Harcourt is difficult for me.”
He added, “There are places I cannot go freely anymore because I have to think about my security before making any movement.” He explained that the circumstances have forced him to make significant adjustments to his daily routine.
According to Dokubo, the prolonged restrictions have affected both his personal and public life. He said that although the situation has been challenging, he has continued to adapt while remaining committed to the causes he believes in.
Reflecting further on the issue, he stated, “Life has changed for me over the years. I have had to live differently because of the realities surrounding my security.”
Dokubo noted that personal safety has become a major factor in many of the decisions he makes, including where he travels and where he spends the night. He explained that these considerations were not as significant earlier in his life but have become necessary because of his circumstances.
He further said, “When you live under certain conditions, you have to make decisions that will protect your life. That has been my reality for many years.”
Despite the limitations, Dokubo maintained that he has not allowed the challenges to silence him. He said he remains determined to speak on issues he considers important and to continue expressing his views on national affairs.
Concluding his remarks, he emphasized that the experiences of the past 11 years have strengthened his resolve rather than weakened it. According to him, “The challenges have not stopped me from speaking. They have only made me more determined to stand by what I believe in.
He maintained that although the restrictions have changed aspects of his lifestyle, they have not diminished his commitment to advocating for issues affecting his people and the country.
