Osun East Senator Francis Fadahunsi has clarified his controversial remark about “killing Accord members” after honouring an invitation from the police.
Speaking after the meeting, Fadahunsi explained that the statement was made in Yoruba and may have been misunderstood when translated by people unfamiliar with the language.
According to the senator, he was referring to defeating his political opponents at the polls rather than physical violence.
“I am a Yoruba man. If a Hausa or Igbo person is interpreting my words, it may not be correct. Yoruba means a lot of things. What I said was that between now and Saturday, we will kill them with our votes,” he said.
Fadahunsi’s clarification comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of the governorship election, with political parties and their supporters intensifying campaigns.
The senator’s earlier comment had attracted public attention and prompted the police invitation, while his latest explanation seeks to place the statement in its intended political context.
