Police have arrested a security guard identified as Abdul Latiff in Jalingo, Taraba State, over the alleged murder of his employer, Mrs. Marbel Okafor, in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Latiff was reportedly employed by Okafor as a security guard in early August 2026. About two weeks later, on August 16, he allegedly attacked her with a knife, stabbing her multiple times in the stomach.
According to reports, a neighbour heard Okafor screaming and calling Latiff’s name. When the neighbour confronted him, Latiff allegedly claimed that she had been frightened by a cockroach.
He reportedly later entered Okafor’s room and fled with three mobile phones, ₦10,000 from her purse and other valuables.
Latiff allegedly travelled by road to Jalingo, where police traced and arrested him after neighbours discovered Okafor’s body and alerted the authorities.
During questioning, he was reportedly asked what Okafor had done to him. He allegedly responded that she had done nothing and attributed the incident to “the devil’s work.”
Police investigations are ongoing.
Latiff remains a suspect and is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
