Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that government at the national, state and local levels are working together to secure the safe return of students and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.

Makinde gave the assurance after meeting with representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS; Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT; and Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, who led a protest to the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.

The protesters had gathered to demand urgent action over the abduction, calling on authorities to intensify rescue efforts and strengthen security around schools and vulnerable communities.

After listening to their concerns, Makinde said his administration would continue to prioritise the safety and well-being of residents across the state.

He also said the government remains open to feedback and public concerns regarding security in Oyo State, especially as anxiety grows over the safety of students, teachers and communities.

The meeting comes amid nationwide calls for stronger action against kidnapping and school attacks, with parents, teachers, students and labour groups demanding the safe return of all abducted victims.
