The Nigeria Police Force has activated its Air Wing as part of heightened security operations for the Osun State governorship election taking place today, Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The aerial surveillance is aimed at monitoring the state from the air, supporting ground security operations and helping security personnel detect suspicious movements or activities that could threaten the peaceful conduct of the election.

The deployment comes amid extensive security measures across Osun, including a restriction on movement from midnight Friday until 6:00 p.m. Saturday. The police have also warned Amotekun, vigilante groups, hunters’ associations and other non-state security outfits against participating in election security operations.

The election is being closely monitored as voters across the state choose their next governor, with security agencies deployed to help protect voters, electoral officials and election materials throughout the exercise.
