Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has commissioned the Diamond New Energy Projects in Nasarawa State, one of Africa’s major lithium processing plants and mining companies.
Speaking at the event, Shettima said the project reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to creating jobs, developing technical skills, and positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global critical minerals market.
He stressed that solid minerals, particularly lithium, have become increasingly important in today’s technology-driven world, noting that they are essential for the production of electric vehicle batteries, renewable energy storage systems, and other advanced technologies.
According to the Vice President, Nigeria is determined to move beyond exporting raw minerals by promoting local processing, value addition, and industrialisation, ensuring the country’s natural resources generate greater economic benefits for Nigerians.
The commissioning is part of the Tinubu administration’s broader drive to diversify the economy and unlock the potential of Nigeria’s solid minerals sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
