The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and the Australian Federal Police have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations against international drug trafficking networks operating along the Nigeria-Australia route.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Abuja, NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retired), described the agreement as a declaration of war against transnational drug cartels, expressing confidence that the partnership would make the route increasingly hostile for traffickers.

The agreement covers intelligence sharing, coordinated operations, capacity building and controlled drug deliveries. Leading the Australian delegation, Sandra Booth of the AFP said the partnership would strengthen efforts to dismantle organised crime networks, curb drug trafficking and protect vulnerable young people in both countries.
