The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says the ₦10 billion emergency health security fund released by the Federal Government is designed to tackle multiple disease threats, not Ebola alone.
A statement by The Director-General, NCDC Dr Jide Idris, indicates that the funding will strengthen preparedness, surveillance and response to diseases including Lassa fever, cholera, diphtheria, measles and monkeypox. He clarifies that the money was released directly to NCDC, not the Presidential Task Force on Ebola.
Dr Idris says the allocation remains inadequate, noting that implementing Nigeria’s National Action Plan for Health Security 2025–2029 requires about ₦522 billion over five years.
It calls for sustained investment in disease preparedness, warning that preventing epidemics is far less costly than managing full-blown outbreaks.
