Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says the state is ready to host the inaugural National Intermediate Sports Festival from October 1 to 15.

Sanwo-Olu said about 14,000 to 15,000 athletes are expected to participate, with venues including Teslim Balogun Stadium, Rowe Park and other sports centres across the state.

The governor made the announcement during an inspection of ongoing rehabilitation work at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.

He said the football pitch is being upgraded to FIFA standards, while the tartan track, swimming pool, indoor hall and other facilities are also being renovated ahead of the festival.

Sanwo-Olu described the event as an opportunity to strengthen grassroots sports development and help young athletes discover and develop their talents before progressing to elite competition.
