In a recent interview with Chief Ralph Nwosu, the founder and former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised concerns about public trust in Nigeria’s electoral body.
Nwosu stated that he believes in INEC as an institution, however, he expressed doubts about some of its current members, he specifically mentioned Amupitan, APC, Tinubu, and certain appointed commission members.
He stated that the public cannot fully trust them because they may have been involved in questionable meetings, Nwosu referred to a gathering that included judges from high courts, lower courts, the Appeal Court, and the Supreme Court, as well as some INEC officials.
He suggested that until commission members speak up or clarify their positions, they remain part of the problem, he stressed that transparency and accountability are crucial for restoring trust and warned that if commission members do not speak out, public confidence in elections could continue to decline.
Despite his concerns, he acknowledged that INEC as an institution still has the potential to carry out free and fair elections, he encouraged members who are committed to integrity to make their positions known.
”I have trust in INEC as an institution, but I don’t have trust in Amupitan, APC and Tinubu, as well as all the appointed commission members because they may all be in the same shoes, except if some of them start to come out to say something,” he said.
