The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has been honoured at a state banquet hosted by the Lagos State Government following his appointment as the 23rd indigenous and 33rd IGP of Nigeria.
The event, held at the Lagos State House in Lagos, was organised by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and attended by top government officials, security stakeholders, and members of the public.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described Disu as a product of Lagos whose career reflects discipline, dedication, and service, highlighting his impactful tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad.
In his remarks, the IGP expressed appreciation for the honour, describing it as a homecoming. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force, rebuilding public trust, and enhancing community-based policing across the country.
Disu also pledged to deepen collaboration between the police, the Lagos State Government, and key institutions such as the Lagos State Security Trust Fund to ensure sustained security and stability.
He further urged Nigerians to support law enforcement efforts, stressing that effective security requires collective responsibility among government, private sector stakeholders, civil society, and citizens.
The banquet underscored the strong ties between Lagos State and the police leadership, reflecting a shared commitment to safety, service, and national development.
