Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has visited the site of the collapsed five-storey building under construction on Odili Road in Port Harcourt to assess the situation and monitor ongoing rescue efforts.
During the visit on Thursday, the governor received updates from emergency responders and relevant authorities coordinating search-and-rescue operations at the scene.
Fubara commended rescue personnel for their swift response and expressed concern over the victims affected by the incident, assuring that the state government would continue to support efforts aimed at saving lives and providing necessary assistance.
Emergency teams have remained on the ground, working tirelessly to locate and rescue individuals believed to be trapped beneath the rubble following the collapse.
The governor also stressed the importance of strict adherence to building regulations and safety standards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Authorities are yet to confirm the total number of casualties, while investigations into the cause of the collapse are expected to commence.
