Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has ordered an inventory of all houses built on waterways in Ado Ekiti, declaring that buildings found to be obstructing drainage channels will be pulled down, whatever protests property owners may raise. He said the recent flooding in the capital was largely caused by human activity, adding that some building approvals were granted for structures that ought never to have been approved.
In this interview, the governor, who was sworn in for a second term of four years on October 16, 2026, said buildings with formal approval may attract compensation where applicable, while illegally erected ones will not. He also pledged to make Ekiti an industrial destination in his second term, in a bid to deepen his shared prosperity agenda, and said he would not drive transport union members out of business as the state tests a pilot mass transit scheme.
