Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has officially assumed office as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC). He was inaugurated on Friday at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja, where he received his letter of appointment.
President Bola Tinubu appointed Ogundipe on June 22 to succeed Prof. Olufemi Aina, who resigned from the position less than a year after his appointment. The inauguration marks the beginning of Ogundipe’s leadership of the commission’s governing board as it oversees policies and reforms in Nigeria’s university system.
Reacting to his appointment, Ogundipe expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing it as a great honour and responsibility. He also paid tribute to his predecessor, Prof. Aina, for laying a solid foundation and pledged to build on those achievements.
The former UNILAG vice-chancellor said his vision is to strengthen Nigeria’s university system by promoting academic excellence, innovation, and globally competitive university degrees that will enhance the country’s higher education sector.
