The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the forthcoming presidential election, was kidnapped by armed thugs in Ado-Ekiti.

A statement by the police public relations officer, Sunday Abutu clarifies that Sowore was not kidnapped but was involved in an altercation with some individuals at a restaurant in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.

The statement says the Police were alerted to the incident and swiftly deployed operatives to the scene, where Sowore was rescued. He reportedly sustained a minor injury and is currently receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Falade Michael, has ordered a discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and disregard the misleading reports of an alleged kidnapping. It also cautioned against the circulation of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic and tension.
Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Police Command assured residents that it would continue to maintain law and order across the state, irrespective of political affiliation, status or background.
