At least eight Nigerian soldiers have reportedly been killed in an ambush by suspected bandits in Kaduna State, according to family sources and local reports.
The incident reportedly occurred along the Kaduna River axis between Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas, where troops were said to have encountered an armed group allegedly preparing to launch attacks on nearby communities.
According to reports, the confrontation turned deadly, resulting in the deaths of one officer and seven other soldiers. A senior military officer was also reportedly injured in a related attack and is currently receiving medical treatment.
A relative of one of the deceased soldiers reportedly confirmed the incident in a message, stating that his brother was among those killed. However, families are said to be awaiting official confirmation from military authorities.
The attack has reignited concerns over security challenges in parts of Kaduna State and sparked renewed debate over government engagement and rehabilitation initiatives involving former bandits.
