The Ebonyi State Government has appealed to the public to remain calm over a viral video showing an unfortunate incident involving a member of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s convoy, insisting that the footage does not present the full picture of what transpired.
In a media statement issued on Thursday by the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Leo Ekene Oketa, the government expressed sympathy for everyone affected by the incident and wished the injured advance rider a speedy recovery.
The statement noted that no life was lost in the incident. “First and foremost, our thoughts are with everyone affected by the incident. We wish the injured advance rider a full and speedy recovery and are grateful that no lives were lost,” the statement said.
The government cautioned against drawing conclusions based solely on the circulating video, explaining that short clips shared on social media often capture only a fraction of an event and may fail to reflect the complete sequence of happenings.
The government also used the opportunity to explain why official convoys and emergency response vehicles are accorded priority on the roads, stressing that every second can be crucial in emergency situations.
It noted that ambulances, fire service vehicles, security convoys and other authorised emergency responders are deployed to save lives, protect public safety and ensure uninterrupted government operations.
It further reminded motorists that the law requires compliance with lawful traffic directives issued by police officers and other authorised officials. The statement explained that advance riders and convoy personnel are deployed to alert road users, secure intersections where necessary and provide safe passage for both the convoy and the public.
Reaffirming Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to responsible governance, the statement declared that Nwifuru has consistently maintained that professionalism, respect for the rule of law, and the protection of human life must guide public service.
The Ebonyi State Government urged motorists and other road users to remain vigilant, obey lawful traffic directives and exercise patience whenever they encounter ambulances, fire service vehicles, security convoys or other authorized emergency response vehicles, emphasizing that road safety is a collective responsibility.
“A few moments of caution and cooperation can save lives. Let us all remember that road safety is a shared responsibility. Every life matters,” the statement concluded.
