The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit Zone A, has intercepted smuggled and prohibited goods valued at ₦6.19 billion in 195 operations across its area of responsibility.
The Acting Comptroller of the unit, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, disclosed this during a press briefing in Ikeja, Lagos, on November 3, 2026. He attributed the seizures to intelligence-driven enforcement, improved surveillance and stronger collaboration with other government agencies.
Items intercepted include 3,028 bags of 50kg foreign rice, 5,986 parcels of Cannabis Indica weighing 3,407.83kg, 6,949 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 21 used foreign vehicles and 11 means of conveyance.
The seized cannabis was formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action. The agencies also called for stronger public awareness about the dangers of illicit drugs and their impact on society and businesses.
