Distinguished Ibrahim Mohammed Baba, known as IMBA, the Senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), which is the ruling party at the center, has with energetic and strong conviction started touring Bauchi North with grant style as part of his political campaign, which comes with quite a unique political stylish in comparison to those of his opponents and what people would ordinarily expect the political momentum to be. In the past years, politicians have mounted political podiums to sell themselves by applying catchy phrases that are more of political campaign poetry or pie-in-the-sky promises, which could inevitably crash into the realities of practical implementation once they get into office.
IMBA has now shifted the paradigm by picking up one or two things from his already planned blueprint for Bauchi North, which he intends to implement when elected as the senator representing the district at the 11th Assembly. Some of the plans that IMBA has picked up, which have ignited debates, include: the creation of additional Local Government Areas in Bauchi North; the upgrade of FCE Jama’are to a University of Education; the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Giade Local Government; and the re-establishment of a Federal College of Education in Gamawa, which would serve people from Gamawa, Zaki, Sakwa, and even neighbouring states like Jigawa and Yobe, which share borders with Bauchi State.
Even though political experts have made IMBA’s points and agenda clearer by analysing the entire context, their observations, which backed his proposals, and their comments were all valid and well-convincing to reason with or to view as implementable from some angles. Nevertheless, such educative and brain-cracking campaign commitments are what every responsible political candidate should learn to subscribe to, rather than name-calling, bullying opponents, and engaging in many more political ad hominem attacks that could generate crises instead of addressing the actual political arguments.
In a nutshell, I admire the paradigm shift that IMBA is reshaping, which is in alignment with democratic ideals and will undoubtedly help change the current situation of sad political events that are undemocratically unfolding.
