The Abia State Police Command has dismissed an online report alleging that it framed, tortured and denied bail to Tochi Ireokwu, a suspended Deputy Director of Logistics and Supply in the Abia State Homeland Security Service.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the command described the allegations as false and a misrepresentation of the facts surrounding the case.
According to the police, Ireokwu and three other suspects were arrested based on actionable intelligence for their alleged involvement in economic sabotage, vandalism, stealing, conspiracy, and aiding and abetting criminal activities.
The command stated that on April 4, 2026, the suspect, accompanied by an assistant, visited a government facility and allegedly obtained a bunch of keys from the Chief Security Officer under the pretext of conducting a security inspection and inventory.
“During the exercise, she removed some keys from the bunch and, after her inspection, returned the remaining keys to the CSO,” the statement said.
Police further alleged that the suspect subsequently led a group that vandalised the facility and carted away items including armoured electrical cables, wires, electronic motors, engine cylinders, metal components, and car batteries. The items were reportedly loaded into a wine-coloured Toyota Sienna without a number plate.
The suspects were apprehended at the scene by operatives from a nearby police division, acting on intelligence.
The command added that the case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, where the suspect allegedly made a confessional statement.
It noted that the suspects remain in police custody pending their appearance at the Federal High Court in Umuahia.
