According to a report by Channels TV, according to Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), many Adamawa State citizens are content with the political split between Babachir Lawal and Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president and secretary to the federal government, respectively.
The claim was made by Momodu in response to Lawal’s criticism of Atiku and his decision to separate himself from the ADC presidential candidate during a televised appearance.
“I’m sure that a lot of people in Adamawa are rejoicing that finally Atiku has been able to free himself from this man,” he said.
Despite facing constant criticism from both allies and adversaries, the media mogul praised Atiku for being composed and courteous throughout his political career.
He claimed that the result of the ADC presidential primary had left Lawal unhappy and disappointed, and that this was evident in her comments.
According to Momodu, Atiku, being a democratic, has no right to force anyone to stay in his party if they have other goals or interests.
Political disagreements are inevitable in a free society, he continued, denying that the criticism from Adamawa lawmakers heralded a crisis for Atiku in his own state.
According to the ADC chieftain, Atiku’s political clout stems from his decades of national involvement and public service, which go beyond his home state.
The former vice president’s steadfast dedication to peaceful politics was also lauded by him. He pointed out that Atiku has frequently refrained from public disputes, even when confronted with criticism.
Political differences should not be interpreted as a loss of support, Momodu added, and he is confident that Atiku will keep pursuing his political ambitions despite the current scandal.
He begged party members to set aside their differences and concentrate on the party’s future and larger national concerns.
