Dauda Lawal, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, has said repentant bandits in the state go through counselling and guidance before being accepted back into society, with starter packs and skills training provided to keep them busy.
According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Arise News, while speaking during a televised interview, the governor explained how his government handles the reintegration of repentant bandits.
He said the process takes time and begins with integration into society, with those involved required to complete counselling and guidance before the government can be sure they will not return to their old ways.
During the interview, he stated, “first of all, we look at how do we integrate them into the society. They have to go through a process of counseling, guidance and counseling, and also to be sure that, yes, they are no longer going back to. So it takes a process of that integration.”
