Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said Nigeria is pursuing a major infrastructure drive to transform agriculture into a key driver of economic growth. He made the remarks on Thursday, October 8, while leading Nigeria’s delegation on a tour of farms and agricultural facilities in Oromia, Ethiopia.
Shettima said Nigeria aims to address supply-chain gaps and transport bottlenecks to make agribusiness less risky, attract investment and strengthen long-term food and nutrition security.
He described Ethiopia’s Oromia agricultural model as a potential blueprint for farming communities across Africa, highlighting the importance of large-scale production and stronger agricultural systems. During the visit, the delegation toured wheat, banana and papaya farms to observe Ethiopia’s farming practices.
Shettima said the broader goal is to help Africa become a major food supplier to the world. The exchange between Nigeria and Ethiopia is also focused on sharing experiences and approaches to improving food security and nutrition delivery.
