The Federal Government has announced plans to evacuate another 83 Nigerians from South Africa amid renewed concerns over xenophobic attacks and growing anti-foreigner sentiments in the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the returnees are expected to arrive at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, via South African Airways.
The latest evacuation is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to protect Nigerians affected by attacks and hostility directed at foreign nationals in South Africa.
Nigeria had earlier evacuated 258 Nigerians from South Africa in June following xenophobic attacks, with the government stating that the repatriation exercise was fully funded and carried out at no cost to the affected Nigerians.
The latest development comes as concerns over the safety and welfare of Nigerians living in South Africa continue to generate diplomatic and public attention.
