NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has decried the growing number of Nigerians displaced by insecurity, saying millions have effectively become refugees in their own country.

In a statement marking World Refugee Day, Obi noted that terrorism, banditry, kidnappings and violent attacks have forced countless families from their homes, with Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps becoming a symbol of the country’s worsening security crisis.

He lamented the poor conditions in many camps, where displaced persons struggle to access food, healthcare, education and other basic necessities, while expressing concern that many victims have little hope of returning home due to persistent insecurity.

“Behind every statistic is a human life disrupted, a family uprooted, and a future put on hold,” Obi said, adding that Nigerians deserve safety, dignity and the right to live peacefully in their own country.
