According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Thursday, August 27, 2026, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has disclosed that his administration currently spends N6.7 billion every month from the state’s allocation from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to repay loans inherited from the previous administration.
Sani made this known during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, where he explained the financial obligations inherited by his government and the impact of the existing debt repayment arrangement on the state’s monthly revenue.
According to the governor, the debt servicing commitment is not a short-term obligation, as the state is expected to continue making the monthly payments until 2048.
This means the repayment burden will remain part of the state’s financial commitments for more than two decades.
Sani, however, said he was not complaining about the financial situation he met when he assumed office.
He maintained that his administration had accepted the existing obligations and was managing the state’s finances with caution despite the significant amount deducted from its monthly FAAC revenue.
The governor also stated that he had not taken any loan since becoming governor of Kaduna State.
He stressed that his administration had focused on prudent financial management rather than accumulating additional debt, even while meeting the repayment obligations inherited from the previous government.
Sani further explained that the monthly debt repayment would continue for several years because of the terms attached to the loans inherited by his administration.
He said the amount being deducted from the state’s FAAC allocation represents a substantial financial commitment that will remain in place until 2048.
“What I’m trying to say, in essence, we are paying 6.7 billion every month from our FAAC, which will continue until 2048,” he said.
