The UK High Commission in Nigeria has held engagements with key political actors and electoral stakeholders as part of preparations and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
The UK delegation, led by High Commissioner Richard Montgomery and Deputy High Commissioner Gill Lever, met with the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission, as well as major political figures.
Among those engaged were former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, alongside other political and institutional stakeholders.
The meetings focused on strengthening democratic processes, promoting credible elections, and encouraging inclusive political participation ahead of the 2027 polls.
The UK High Commission stated that it remains committed to supporting transparent and peaceful elections in Nigeria through continued engagement with relevant institutions and actors.
The development underscores growing international interest in Nigeria’s democratic process as political activities gradually intensify toward 2027.
