Troops of 176 Guards Battalion, Nigerian Army, deployed at Abaji, have recorded another significant success in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and related criminal activities, following the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker and the recovery of a large quantity of illicit substances.
The operation, which occurred during a routine snap check at about 7:50 p.m. on 22 June 2026, led to the interception of a white Toyota Avalon XLS with registration number BNG-326BN (Kaduna State), travelling from Okitipupa, Ondo State, to Abuja along the Lokoja–Abuja Highway.
Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, troops discovered 273 compressed packets of suspected Cannabis Sativa weighing approximately 235 kilograms. The driver, identified as Ayodeji John, a 30-year-old male, was immediately taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations and profiling confirmed the suspect’s involvement in the transportation of the illicit consignment. Consequently, both the suspect and the recovered exhibits were formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on 23 June 2026 for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The successful operation highlights the vigilance and professionalism of troops in denying criminal elements freedom of action and reinforces ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking of illicit drugs across the country. The operation was concluded without any casualties or security breaches.
