The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is set to welcome Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, into the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.
Governor Lawal, who recently defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) along with his deputy, cabinet members, and key party supporters, announced his move while in Saudi Arabia through Deputy Governor Malam Mani Mummuni.
He cited internal crises within the PDP as a major reason for his defection.
In preparation for the event, the Zamfara State government inaugurated a committee to ensure a smooth reception for the Vice President.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni, includes both Governor Lawal’s supporters and existing APC members, working together to guarantee the success of the occasion.
In a statement signed by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), it was noted: “Shettima is expected to formally receive Governor Dauda Lawal into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a grand occasion.
The committee also aims to foster party unity, accommodate everyone, and facilitate a seamless integration process ahead of the Governor’s formal induction into the APC.”
Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni, while inaugurating the committee, urged members to carry out their duties with sincerity and dedication.
He emphasised that Governor Lawal, as a party leader, is committed to ensuring fair treatment for all members.
In his remarks, Zamfara APC Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Umar Danfulani, called on party supporters to embrace the new development in good faith, noting that the state has now become a single progressive family.
The statement added that following Governor Lawal’s defection, the APC in Zamfara has gained approximately 210,539 new members, reflecting the governor’s strong grassroots influence.
This brings the total APC membership in the state to 308,539, including the 97,710 members previously registered before Governor Lawal joined the party.
