Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the public presentation of three books in honour of former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), as he marked his 84th birthday anniversary in Abuja.

The books presented at the event were ‘Call of Duty,’ ‘Nigeria’s Grand Patriot,’ and ‘Mediating for Peace in Africa,’ all written to celebrate Abdulsalami’s life, leadership, patriotism, and contributions to peace-building across Nigeria and the African continent.

Delivering President Tinubu’s message at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Shettima described the former Head of State as a respected elder statesman whose role in Nigeria’s democratic transition remains unforgettable. He praised Abdulsalami for promoting peace, national unity, democratic stability, and responsible political engagement through the National Peace Committee.

Tinubu also commended Abdulsalami for handing over power to a civilian government in 1999, describing him as one of the major figures who helped lay the foundation for Nigeria’s Fourth Republic and 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule.

As part of the honour, Shettima directed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to allocate a befitting parcel of land within Abuja for the construction of an office for the Abdulsalami Abubakar African Resource Centre (AAARC).

According to the Presidency, the centre is expected to support peace-building, democratic ideals, leadership development, and sustainable development across Nigeria and Africa.
