The Nigeria Police Force has invited social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), to provide evidence backing his allegation that some police officers stationed at checkpoints collude with kidnappers and bandits.
VDM reportedly made the allegation during the recently concluded Nigerian Bar Association Conference in Port Harcourt, claiming that some officers allegedly share information about travellers with criminals.
The police have asked VDM to produce evidence supporting the claims, stressing that any credible information provided would be thoroughly investigated.
The Force maintained that its personnel deployed to checkpoints are responsible for preventing crime and protecting motorists, not facilitating kidnapping.
The development comes amid growing public concern over kidnapping and insecurity on major highways across the country.
