The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, identified as the alleged originator of an AI-generated voice note circulated online as a leaked recording of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The arrest was announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his official X account.
According to Onanuga, the suspect allegedly created and circulated the fake audio, which was presented to unsuspecting people as the President’s voice.
The controversy began after a manipulated video surfaced online with an AI-generated voice resembling Tinubu’s, making inflammatory claims about insecurity, Peter Obi and the suffering of Nigerians.
Investigations by multiple news organisations later established that social media activist, VeryDarkMan, did not post the doctored audio.
Reports said an unidentified person had extracted footage from VeryDarkMan’s original Instagram video and added the fabricated voice note before recirculating it online.
