Former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has engaged policymakers, diplomats, business leaders and development experts at a high-level roundtable discussion in Berlin, Germany, focused on Nigeria’s future beyond 2027.

The discussion, organised by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), was titled “Nigeria in 2027 and Beyond” and brought together representatives from governments, international organisations, business groups, policy institutes and global media to examine Nigeria’s democratic journey, economic prospects and role in the global community.

During the engagement, Obi highlighted the need to strengthen democratic institutions, improve governance, expand trade and investment opportunities, and build stronger partnerships that can support Nigeria’s economic growth.

He emphasised the importance of supporting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), describing them as critical to job creation, innovation, wealth creation and sustainable development. Obi also called for a transition from a consumption-driven economy to one focused on production and productivity.

Peter Obi also said that Nigeria has the human and natural resources required to become a prosperous and globally competitive nation, but stressed the need for accountable leadership, investment in education, healthcare, businesses and strong institutions.

The roundtable provided an opportunity for participants to discuss ways Nigeria can deepen international cooperation, attract investment and strengthen its position in global affairs.
