NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the prolonged abduction of schoolchildren in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, describing it as “outrageous” that the President has not contacted Governor Seyi Makinde more than 50 days after the incident.
Obi, in a statement titled “Worsening Leadership Crisis in the Country Now Evident,” said he visited Ibadan alongside economist Prof. Pat Utomi to express solidarity with Governor Makinde. According to him, he was shocked to learn during their meeting that the governor had not received a single phone call from President Tinubu since the abduction occurred.
The former Anambra State governor compared the situation to the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction, recalling that then-President Goodluck Jonathan faced widespread criticism over his handling of the crisis. Obi noted that Tinubu was among those who strongly criticised Jonathan at the time for delaying contact with the affected state’s governor.
Obi argued that the current administration has witnessed several school kidnapping incidents and accused the Federal Government of showing a lack of urgency, compassion, and leadership in addressing insecurity. He described the situation as evidence of a worsening leadership crisis and renewed his call for President Tinubu to either resign or refrain from seeking re-election in 2027.
