Abia State Governor Alex Otti has called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, governments, and stakeholders to tackle insecurity in the South-East, saying lasting peace is essential for the region’s growth and development.
Speaking at the First South-East Regional Security Summit 2026 in Umuahia, themed “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Security and Regional Stability,” Otti said the region must adopt a united approach through intelligence sharing, stronger institutions, and coordinated security operations to combat crime and ensure lasting stability.
The summit was attended by top government officials, security chiefs, and regional leaders, including Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, representatives of South-East governors, retired military officers, and traditional leaders.
Otti thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support for security initiatives in the South-East and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the Federal Government and neighbouring states to make the region safer. He stressed that crime must become unprofitable, adding that peace and security remain the foundation for economic prosperity and sustainable development.
