Nigerian food critic Opeyemi Famakin has triggered a wave of reactions online following comments about raising children in Nigeria and his comparison of Nigerians and Ghanaians.
During a recent discussion, Famakin said he wants to remain in Nigeria and contribute to its development but expressed concerns about the environment his future children would grow up in.
He questioned whether he would want his children surrounded by people he described as lacking critical thinking skills, adding that he fears the influence of the wider society on their upbringing.
Famakin also compared Nigerians and Ghanaians, claiming that Ghanaians are stronger in critical thinking while Nigerians are more skilled in business, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
“Ghanaians are smarter than Nigerians. It’s just, they are not as hardworking. Nigerians are business smart,” he said.
He further argued that business success should not automatically be equated with overall intelligence, saying a person can excel financially while still having weaknesses in areas such as critical thinking.
His remarks have sparked debate on social media, with some users criticising the broad generalisation, while others discussed the differences between business skills, education, and societal development.
