Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in Yobe State, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers and recovering a large cache of weapons.

The assault, which began shortly after midnight on April 23, 2026, was met with a swift and strategic response by troops under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force (North East). The soldiers executed a combined offensive and defensive operation that forced the insurgents into a chaotic retreat after hours of intense fighting.

Military sources confirmed that at least 24 terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while ongoing clearance operations have led to the recovery of several weapons, including AK-47 rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers, mortar tubes, grenades, and large volumes of ammunition.

Despite the success, two soldiers were wounded in action and are currently receiving medical care, while an armoured vehicle sustained damage during the engagement.

Security forces have continued exploitation operations along the attackers’ withdrawal routes, with evidence suggesting further casualties among the fleeing insurgents.

The military described the operation as a major success, highlighting the troops’ resilience, preparedness, and firepower in denying terrorists freedom of movement across the region. Authorities say sustained offensives will continue to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting security in the North-East.
