Nigeria’s men’s national volleyball team has qualified for the 2026 African Volleyball Nations Cup after defeating Benin Republic 3-1 in the final match of the CAVB Zone 3 qualifiers in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Nigerian team came from behind after losing the opening set 25-21 to win the next three sets 25-21, 25-15 and 25-20. The victory secured Nigeria’s fourth consecutive win in the tournament, having earlier defeated Niger Republic, hosts Côte d’Ivoire, and Togo.
With the qualification, Nigeria will compete at the 2026 African Volleyball Nations Cup, scheduled to take place in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, from September 7 to 21. The team’s unbeaten run has been widely praised as a sign of the country’s growing strength in African volleyball.
The achievement has been celebrated by sports enthusiasts, with many expressing hope that the team can build on its impressive form and challenge for honours at the continental championship.
