Former Abia State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, popularly known as “JOK,” has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.
Chief Okiyi Kalu, who previously served as Commissioner for Information and later as Commissioner for Trade and Investment under former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, is expected to seek the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The Abiriba-born politician from Ohafia Local Government Area is banking on strong grassroots support, particularly from young party members and a growing bloc within the PDP in Abia State, as he positions himself to clinch the party’s governorship ticket.
