Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement personally signed by him on Wednesday, Fubara said the decision followed consultations with his family, friends, and political associates. He pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.
“Leadership demands sacrifice, and personal ambition must sometimes give way to the collective interest of the people,” Fubara said, emphasizing that Rivers State’s peace, stability, and unity must take precedence over individual aspirations.
He thanked his supporters for their loyalty and said his recent silence was deliberate and strategic, guided by the higher interest of the state.
Fubara also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and APC leadership for their support and urged party faithful to remain united, describing the party as their “collective home.”
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections in Rivers State. Fubara reiterated that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as weakness or fear, but as a move in the interest of peace and unity.
